At The University of Texas at Austin, we use information technology to explore new ideas and to solve problems in novel ways. This year, we are exploring artificial intelligence (AI) to take risks, challenge conventional ideas, and embrace change in support of the Year of AI.
Innovation Paths
Breakthrough innovation incites disruptive change and redefines the space of discovery.
Continuous innovation is an ongoing process that involves introducing new ideas, methods, products, or services to maintain a competitive edge and drive growth.
Creative
Take a build it, grow it, yes-and approach.
Agile and Adaptable
Flexible and adaptable to changes and willingness to experiment, take risks, and embrace change is essential to stay responsive and relevant.
Inclusion
Incorporating a multitude of voices, perspectives and expertise leads to creative solutions and accelerates the innovation process.
Iterative
Testing new concepts, refining, and implementing in multiple cycles given feedback.
Learning and Sharing Knowledge
Creating a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing supports innovation.
Partner-Focused
Understanding partner needs, preferences, and pain points is crucial to refining the innovation product.
Beyond AI
At the University of Texas at Austin, we embrace innovation to change the world. While AI may be our focus right now, we continue to work to bring about new ideas, processes, and services that have a significant positive impact to our colleagues, communities, and beyond. Two of those areas are automation and open source software.
Automation
Automation is the use of technology to streamline tasks, reduce errors, and free up human time for more meaningful work. At the University, there is a group that collaborates on using technology to automate simple, repetitive tasks and to improve business processes by automating complex and repeatable multi-step tasks.
- Collaborate with colleagues to find solutions
- Discover new automation technologies
- Join the UT Workflow Automation Teams community
Open Source Software
Open source software is software with source code that is publicly accessible, allowing anyone to inspect, modify, and enhance. At the University, there is a new Open Source Program Office (OSPO) that is the center for open source activity and connections. OSPO:
- Provides consulting and training for open source software development
- Supports a healthy open source software ecosystem
- Serves as the hub for an active and collaborative university community
- Visit the OSPO website to engage!!
